Change In Worship Times

Wake Forest UMC is moving to one worship service at 10 am beginning on Sunday, Dec. 25th, Christmas Day. This move comes after several months of prayer as well as conversations with the Worship Committee, Sunday School Class Leaders, Staff, and the Administrative Council. We are making this change to help us grow in our mission of making disciples of Jesus to transform this world. We believe this move will help us grow in our mission through:

  • Developing new and stronger relationships within our current congregation. God created us to be in community and we want to renew, invigorate and grow our relational capital post-pandemic.
  • Creating worship momentum and energy through a sanctuary that is 50-65% filled. With a more full sanctuary we will have robust hymn sings, rich passing of the peace and a stronger sense of communal liturgy. This will not only help our current congregation experience God’s means of grace in a renewed way but also engender guests to experience this same wonderfulness of God through a more full and vibrant sanctuary.
  • Expanding our volunteer base post-pandemic. Having two services stretches us as it takes a lot of servants between greeters, ushers, counters, liturgists, sound technicians, communion stewards, acolytes and Streamteam members to make each Sunday happen.

Sunday School classes will be deciding if they want to meet before or after the 10am service. This will be up to each group and their leadership. Classes could even begin at 8:30am if they want to have more than an hour of Sunday School time.

We realize that moving to one service is a change for WFUMC. However, I know that we are committed to our mission in wanting more people to know Jesus and growing in their relationship with Jesus. The good news is that we will not only have a more full space but also we will have the choir at every service. Moreover, we will continue to have the hospitality table stocked with coffee and treats before the service. And, this will allow us the opportunity to develop additional Sunday morning small groups since groups could meet earlier or later than worship.

I invite you to continue to pray with us as we move to this new time with the hopes and prayers of our church becoming more and more Christ-centered, service driven and community focused.

Yours in Christ,

Rev. Jim Littleton
